The Hart Beat
As you may know, one of my hobbies is running. I especially enjoy running in Baltimore (where I live) and through the towns and cities I visit - a couple of my personal favorites have been downtown Indianapolis, The National Mall in DC, and Colonial Williamsburg.
But, this post isn't about me. It's about my mom, Donna Hart. My mom was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) on July 31st of 2018. ALS is a terminal disease that progressively destroys the connection between your brain and your muscles, causing a gradual weakening of your essential muscle functions. ALS seems to run in my family, as my grandfather, Lloyd Reed, and my aunt, Wilma Traeger, both passed away from ALS.
My mom is hands down the strongest person I know. Yes, ALS has weakened her physically, particularly her breathing, but it has also revealed a deep inner strength and faith in the Lord. My mom is someone with tremendous grit and strength, and she has continued to serve and love the Lord, her husband, her kids and grandchildren, her church, and her extended family even in very difficult circumstances. And she does it all without ever complaining and while continuing to fight hard every day. I'm so proud of my mom (and Dad, who cares for her) and am so thankful to God for them.
