About the Race
Since its inception in 2007, the Fiesta 5K has raised more than $2.8 million for ALS research. Participants can run/walk as part of a team or just on their own. With a great course through Harbor East, the Fiesta 5K has become a can't-miss event in Baltimore. The goal of the race is simple - we want to make people more aware of ALS and raise funds to support our efforts toward a cure.
About the Packard Center
The Packard Center is an international consortium of scientists and clinicians working together to understand and develop effective therapies to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as ALS). To accomplish this, the Center has pioneered a unique model for inter-institutional collaboration, engaging leaders of the scientific community from around the world in an effort to accelerate research of the highest quality.
As an organization without walls, the Packard Center established an aggressive, multidisciplinary approach to understanding ALS. Each year our scientific advisory board, an internationally recognized panel of experts in ALS/ motor neuron disease and the biology of nerve cell death, picks the most promising new research pathways and evaluates progress on existing ones. Experts in a variety of disciplines apply for grants by invitation only, even if ALS isn’t their specialty. While some of our grantees are at Johns Hopkins, nearly 70% of the Center’s researchers come from other universities worldwide or from private industry.
